CRAFTMANSHIP

All U-DOT products are made in Asakusa, Tokyo.

Asakusa, located in the east side of Tokyo, a popular tourist destination, has been the mecca of the shoe industry for over 100 years, and even today there are over 100 shoe factories, along with many leather shops and material stores. Over half of the leather shoes made in Japan are made in Asakusa.

There are few cities in Italy or the United States like this where the entire town is based on the shoe industry, and only a few factories remain in Northampton, England. There are more than 10 schools teaching shoemaking techniques in Tokyo. There are few places in Asia where you can easily study shoemaking, so many people from overseas come to Japan to study shoemaking and buy materials.

Welded (Construction)
Udot's shoes aim to be as light, soft, and easy to wear as possible. For that reason, even though they are leather shoes, they are made by craftsmen in our own factory in Asakusa using the cemented method used for sneakers.

Single Leather
Aiming to make shoes that are as light, soft, and comfortable as possible, U-DOT is made from a single piece of leather, instead of two pieces that are normally used for the front and back of the shoes. We cut a single, very thick piece of high-quality leather that is not normally used for shoes, and make the shoes simply, without using unnecessary glue, so you can feel the natural comfort of the leather on your feet. We have eliminated as much lining and unnecessary core material as possible, and the structure allows you to feel the warmth of being wrapped in leather alone and the strength of the original living leather.

Top stitched seam
Normally, the bag would be sewn open on the inside, reinforced with tape, and lined. U-dot uses a single piece of leather that does not require lining or reinforcement. This is the way the bag was made. It is simple and also serves as an accent to the design.

Asakusa, located on the eastern side of Tokyo and is a popular destination for sightseeing, has been a mecca for the shoe industry for over 100 years. Still to this day, there are more than 100 shoe factories and many leather and material shops. More than half of Japanese leather shoes are made in Asakusa.
It is great to be in a city where we still have a strong footwear industry when only a few towns in Italy, the United States, and Northampton, England, have the same stature. More than ten schools in Tokyo specialize in footwear craftsmanship, and many people from overseas come to Japan to study shoe-making and buy materials.

Welded (Construction)
We strive to produce U-DOT shoes as light, soft, and comfortable as possible. We manufacture each pair of leather shoes by experienced artisans at our factory with the utmost care using the welding technique often used for sneakers to give the ultimate comfort.

Single Leather
Our mission is to offer shoes as light and soft as possible and easy fit on foot. To achieve that goal, we use a high-end single thick sheet of leather that is not used for shoes typically, adjust the thickness to the desired level for shoes and create a pair. We use this high-end leather instead of bonded leather that typically contains lining, backing, or glue. Thus, the leather will fit directly onto the foot for maximum comfort and enjoy the nature of leather.

Top stitched seam
We use the top-stitch technique instead of the typical method when seams are stitched inward and reinforced with the tape and lining and add thickness to the leather. As U-DOT shoes are made with a single sheet of leather, it eliminates the unnecessary thickness and provides simplicity and design.
